Summer Camp Engagement at Bhatikar Model High School
As part of the summer camp initiative, Sidharaj Mopkar conducted interactive mathematics sessions for students at Bhatikar Model High School transitioning from Grade 4 to Grade 5. The sessions aimed to strengthen foundational mathematical concepts through conceptual exploration and engaging activities.
One group focused on developing a deeper understanding of the place value system. Students explored the logic behind standard algorithms used for addition and subtraction, moving beyond procedural learning to conceptual clarity. Emphasis was placed on understanding “why” methods work rather than just “how” they are applied.
The second group engaged with number patterns through series completion exercises, encouraging logical thinking and mathematical intuition. Additionally, the use of math-based games helped reinforce multiplication tables and enhance arithmetic fluency in a playful, low-pressure environment.
The sessions were designed to be inquiry-driven and age-appropriate, with a focus on fostering curiosity and confidence in mathematical thinking. Feedback from students and teachers was positive, highlighting the effectiveness of combining conceptual discussions with game-based reinforcement.
